Dry eye syndrome

Dry eye syndrome is the most common eye disease and affects 10% of the population, especially older people.

The reduction or poor quality tears leads to dry eye syndrome, which manifests itself with various eye discomforts such as blurred vision, photophobia (sensitivity to light), foreign body sensation, redness, excessive tearing, etc.

This usually appears in the fourth or fifth decade of life and is more frequent in women due to hormonal disorders.

After discarding any general disorders with which it may be associated, treatment is used to make up for the deficiencies that cause it.

It is important to see an ophthalmologist for these symptoms and not to self-medicate with artificial tear drops or eye lubricants, as these can correct the symptoms but do not solve the problem; dry eyes can even result from the use of eye drops without a prescription.

At Clínica Oftalmológica Castro we are specialists in this disease, making an accurate diagnosis and providing with the appropriate therapeutic measures.
